This specialist consults with surgeons about vascular and peritoneal cavity access for dialysis as well as kidney transplantation.

Dialysis

Primary Care

Nephrology

Dialysis is to take over kidney functions when the kidneys have been damaged.

The purpose of dialysis is to take over kidney functions when the kidneys have been damaged to the point at which they no longer remove excess fluid and wastes from the bloodstream. When the kidneys are not functioning properly, wastes such as creatinine and nitrogen accumulate in the bloodstream. The presence of these wastes often makes a person feel ill and weak. By lending functionality to the kidneys, dialysis brings relief from these and other symptoms related to kidney damage. This is the primary benefit of treatment.

Kidneys Are Life-Sustaining

Warning signs of kidney disease

Kidney disease usually affects both kidneys. If the kidneys' ability to filter the blood is seriously damaged by disease, wastes and excess fluid may build up in the body. Many forms of kidney disease do not produce symptoms until late in the course of the disease.

  1. High blood pressure.
  2. Blood and/or protein in the urine.
  3. A creatinine and Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) blood test, outside the normal range. BUN and creatinine are waste that build up in your blood when your kidney function is reduced.
  4. A glomerular filtration rate (GFR) less than 60. GFR is a measure of kidney function.
  5. More frequent urination, particularly at night; difficult or painful urination.
  6. Puffiness around eyes, swelling of hands and feet.

"Dr. Sultan and his staff are extremely professional and attentive.   Our family member transferred from another practice when kidney function and multiple issues were occurring.   Dr. Sultan took the time to closely monitor and get the numbers in a better place, week by week adjusting, and listening to the family.  He is an excellent listener and has been available to help us through the kidney failure stages.  We are extremely happy we made the transfer to his practice. His office manager Jessie and assistant Bryanna are organized and helpful with scheduling, updating bloodwork, and helping with coordinating doctors.  We feel very confident with his strategies and advice.  Our family member is feeling much better and prepared for dialysis when it’s needed.  Our family is so grateful we made the transfer to Dr. Sultan."
